दुनिया की सर्वश्रेष्ठ डेयरी भैंस और भारत तथा विदेशों में स्थानीय भैंसों का स्तर सुधारने के लिए सबसे अधिक इस्तेमाल होने वाली नस्ल। भैंस के कृत्रिम गर्भाधान की रीढ़ मुर्रा का ही सीमेन है।

शारीरिक विशेषताएँ
- रंग: गहरा काला, कभी-कभी चेहरे और पैरों पर सफ़ेद निशान
- छोटे, कसकर मुड़े हुए सींग — नस्ल की पहचान
- भारी शरीर, सुविकसित थन और लंबे थन-चूचुक
- चौड़ा, ढलवाँ पिछला भाग और सफ़ेद गुच्छे वाली लंबी पतली पूँछ
- शारीरिक भार: 550 किलो (मादा), 750 किलो (नर)
